Maurits

Maurits S. Berger is a lawyer, Arabist, and professor of Islam and the West at Leiden University, where he also holds the Sultan of Oman Chair for Oriental Studies. He is a senior research associate at the Clingendael Institute for International Relations in The Hague.

With a background in both law and Middle Eastern studies, Maurits has worked as a lawyer in Amsterdam and as a researcher and journalist in Cairo and Damascus. His work focuses on Islamic law, political Islam, and questions of religious freedom—especially in the context of Europe.

He is often invited to speak or advise at institutions such as the European Parliament, the OSCE, Dutch ministries, and legal and civic organisations. He also regularly contributes commentary to the media. His current research project, The Future of Islam in Europe, explores how Muslims in Europe define what it means to live as Muslims, and how this shapes both their communities and wider European societies.

Ewa

Ewa Górska is a socio-legal researcher and assistant professor at the Digital Justice Center at the University of Wrocław. She works at the intersection of law, society, and culture, focusing on how legal systems reproduce injustice—especially through Islamophobic bias, Orientalist narratives, and the legal discrimination of Palestinians both in Palestine and in exile.

Ewa holds degrees in Law and Middle Eastern Studies, and earned her PhD in Law from the Jagiellonian University. Outside academia, she collaborates with civil society organisations as a trainer and expert, and hosts Reorient.pl, a Polish-language podcast about culture, politics, and the law.

Tomek

Tomasz Stankiewicz is a sound engineer and podcast editor with a background in acoustic engineering from AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Poland. He spent years working in radio—as a technician, reporter, and host of popular science shows—before moving into audiobook production and sound design. Today, he edits podcasts full-time through his company, Tostanki.pl, helping creators bring their stories to life with clean, immersive audio.
